Oakwoods Metropark Weekend Adventures

Had a fantastic time Saturday with the family with our first visit to the Oakwoods Metropark in Flat Rock, Michigan. The scenic woods and picturesque Huron River were beautiful on a blistering cold winter’s afternoon. The Park is nearly 2000 acres filled with mature woodlands, along scenic overlooks of the backwaters of the Huron River. There is plenty to do here. This Metropark also features an equestrian trail and a paved, hike-bike trail connecting to Willow and Lower Huron Metroparks for a 15-mile trail (30-mile round trip). While at the park, stop at the Cedar Knoll Picnic Area to hike the nearby butterfly viewing trail, designated as a monarch waystation by Monarch Watch. Bring your canoe or kayak to ply the river behind the Nature Center. Fish along the shore, at the Cedar Knoll Picnic area, or put in your rowboat at the fishing access. The park is dog friendly as long as they are leashed. Our dogs Rue and HoneyPot had so much fun bathing in the fresh air and exploring the riverside. Of course dad had to take to the sky and grab a few shots before we left for the evening. Hope you all enjoy and have a great week. 🐼🙏👍.
