Why Do We Fall?

“Why do we fall? So we can learn to pick ourselves up.”

One of my favorites lines and scenes from the The Dark Knight Movie Trilogy.

We all have those moments of excitement and anticipation when we start planning a fun weekend adventure. The more planning and thought that goes into an adventure the more I can’t wait for it to arrive. It becomes an obsession that nothing will satisfy until I am ready to leave.

I had high hopes and a detailed agenda of things I wanted to accomplish with my extended summer weekend vacation. One of the biggest items on the list was capturing some great cinematic aerial drone footage with my DJI Mavic Pro in Northern Michigan’s raw wilderness. Unfortunately, my first shot lasted less than a minute before my drone got caught in a tall pine tree about 50 feet high.

On the bright side, I was able to safely recover my drone without injury to myself. However, my drone was not spared. It suffered a catastrophic malfunction and is on its way for repair.

I think especially for dreamers like myself, many times reality doesn’t quite match up with the grand ideas we are constantly creating in our mind. I have learned to let go of emotional baggage when things don’t go according to plan. If you really think about it, I firmly believe that if our lives worked out exactly as we had imagined we wouldn’t truly be happy. In fact, I am quite sure it would be the opposite. Life throws us curve balls all the time and that is not necessarily a bad thing. These are the moments that make life an adventure worth living. I am sure we can all think back to a number of times an unexpected turn in life led to something wonderful and exciting.

We can all achieve happiness even in our darkest moments as long as we continue to grow, nurture a positive attitude and mentality. We may not be able to control the things that happen to us, but we can choose how we react.

I am using this experience as another reminder that life doesn’t always go according to plan. I still had a fabulous time, and enjoyed each and every moment.

This picture below was the best shot of the vacation. My dog 🐕 HoneyPot ❤️. She loves nature and the outdoors as much as I do.
