USGS confirms meteor caused 2.0 magnitude earthquake

The United States Geological Survey confirmed Tuesday that a meteor was sighted over Metro Detroit and caused a magnitude 2.0 earthquake, according to the National Weather Service.

It appears to have happened at 8:08 PM EST.

As of 10:35 p.m. on Tuesday, the American Meteor Society had more than 200 fireball reports spanning six states and Canada

A majority of the reports come from southeast Michigan, but there are also reports in Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
